Interlaken is a busy holiday town between two lakes, with the Jungfrau valleys opening to the south. Around Höhematte, there is space to pause and look towards the mountains. Shops, restaurants and excursion offices make the central streets lively; you come here as much for convenience as for scenery.
The lakes are outside the centre, so a town stroll is not a lakeside walk. For trips on the water, Lake Brienz boats leave from Interlaken Ost and Lake Thun boats from West. There is no boat route through the town joining the two.
